CASE STUDY
Hillstone Homes have a reputation for building great homes in Kent. They have years of experience of developing beautiful and exceptional homes.
They are also known for sourcing their materials carefully. Hillstone also recognise the importance of sustainability in their housing developments. Their homes are heated using A++ air source heat pumps, which are much more energy efficient than a regular boiler. The use of LED lighting and smart control of heating and lighting also deliver more sustainable living. Together they create adaptable homes that are both contemporary and ergonomic.
The Bowers is one of their latest developments enjoying an elevated position atop Broomhill. As well as the usual technology benefits this location affords far-reaching views over the surrounding Medway towns.
The Bowers is Just a short drive from major transport infrastructure but sufficiently far away to retain a rural, peaceful atmosphere. It is an eco-friendly four home development comprising of five bedroom homes with every amenity. They have efficiency built in including underfloor heating and floor to ceiling glazing. Each home comes complete with a green roof on both the main house and adjacent garage so carbon footprints are negligible here.
The green roofs have been created using our Enviromat Sedum Matting. More than just a fad or novelty, a living green roof provides insulation, from noise and cold as well as helping to prevent flooding, filter pollutants from the air and provide food and shelter for a vast variety of wildlife.
Each of our green roof kits comes with the main ingredients that you need to create a true green sedum roof. Each kit contains a root barrier to protect the waterproofing from any potential root damage, as well as a living carpet of hardy sedum plants.
Every sedum mat is seeded with up to seventeen different sedum varieties – grown outdoors for up to a year. Each plant is chosen for its disease resistance, drought tolerance, long flowering period and enviable good looks.
All of our matting is made using recycled materials and products. It is strong and easy to install, whilst also carefully designed to keep the growing medium within the mat.
Our sedums are drought-tolerant, meaning that they only need to be watered occasionally during extended periods of dry weather. They are all low maintenance and only require a specialist sedum feed every spring, unless your roof is pitched at a steep angle or exposed to drying wind.
Harrowden’s role was relatively straightforward supplying our Enviromat Sedum Mat to support the project.
All of our matting is made using recycled materials and products, meaning that you can feel safe that your new green roof kit is environmentally friendly.
It is very strong and easy to install, whilst also carefully designed to keep the growing medium within the mat.
