The Role

An exciting opportunity for a Turf Harvester Operator / Farm Worker has become available within the largest turf grower in the UK. We are a diverse farming group and specialise in turf, potatoes, wheat and other arable crops.

We are seeking a candidate who will primarily harvest turf but is multi-skilled and able to be involved in all aspects of the farm, including the arable operations as well as turf production and maintenance.

You will be a team player, preferably with prior agricultural experience. Driving license essential. Ability to operate a forklift desirable. You will be expected to work overtime to meet business requirements. You must have your own transport for this position due to lack of public transport near to the farm sites and the requirement to be very flexible with working times and locations.

We are looking for a punctual, reliable and hard-working individual who wishes to pursue a career in the farming and agricultural industry.

The Role

We are one of the UK’s leading growers of wildflower and sedum mats, a business built on our 50 years’ experience in the lawn turf industry. We have a number of exciting opportunities at our Feltwell (Norfolk) farm and are looking for enthusiastic, hard-working individuals with a passion for working outdoors. Our small team are multi-skilled – and able to perform manual work with the same energy and enthusiasm they apply to tractor work. Whilst prior agricultural or horticultural experience is desirable, it is not essential.

Main purpose of despatch role:

Your role is to manage the despatch of our products from the field – organising the loading of lorries and paperwork associated with our logistics process. Except in peak periods this part of the role is not full time and it is expected than any spare capacity is utilised in the harvest and production teams providing manual labour skills.

· Work closely with the harvest supervisor to organise the despatch process

. Loading lorries

· Dealing with collection customers- issuing paperwork, filling out collection notes daily and completing pallet returns

· Promptly issuing the harvest team with a daily schedule and keeping them updated with any changes throughout the day

· Stock taking of sundry items

· Take responsibility for printing & scanning harvest load labels

· Data entry on relevant systems

· Ensuring drivers have relevant paperwork

· Communicate timely and effectively with other team members and hauliers.

· Carry out general field duties when required.

· Assist with harvest when necessary.

· Being aware of colleagues’ workloads and offering help and support if needed.

Skills

This role would ideally suit an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual, with very strong communication skills who also has the initiative to identify how the role can be developed. Ability to think ‘outside’ the box to solve problems as they arise and be prepared to pull up their sleeves and assist the wider team when required.

Good team player who can work effectively with a wide variety of people in different roles across the business. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise whilst still being flexible are absolutely essential. Forklift experience desirable though not essential.

A driving licence is essential for this role.

Requirements

Experience:

Hours

Your normal hours of work are 40 hours per week from Monday to Sunday with a 30-minute unpaid break each day. Any additional breaks are also unpaid. Start and finish times to be flexible to meet the demand of the business. You may be required to work additional hours, either when requested to do so by the company or for the proper performance of your duties

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity within our Mat Products team. We are one of the UK market leaders in sedum and wildflower mat products and this area of our business has grown significantly over the last 12 months. We grow our wide range of mat products at our farm in Feltwell, Norfolk for despatch UK-wide. We are constantly developing our range and looking to diversify further. Harrowden Turf is the largest UK turf grower and is a diverse farming group, specialise in turf, mat products, potatoes, wheat and other arable crops.

We are seeking a candidates to join our team at a Supervisor level

 

  • To forward plan tasks for the pre harvesting/harvesting team in conjunction with the Mat Products Manager.
  • To organise casual labour teams as required to cover daily harvest requirements
  • To carry out tractor driving, fork truck and harvesting of mat products, shunter/trailer driving.
  • To monitor and maintain all quality standards whilst harvesting
  • To react quickly and effectively on the orders to ensure customer needs are satisfied
  • To ensure product is of the grade and standard for the customers’ needs
  • To monitor stock levels alongside Mat Products Manager.
  • Provide consistent, efficient communications with despatch, head office sales and manger
  • Loading of lorries
  • General maintenance of machinery in line with Machinery manuals
  • Maintenance of Pallets, Pallet ordering and monthly stock count
  • Completion of relevant daily harvest data recording and Paperwork
Skills

Ability to manage people essential
Strong organisation skills and an eye for detail
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to adapt and respond quickly to last-minute changes
A passion for horticulture with a desire to innovate and broaden our product offering
Prior forklift/telehandler experience desirable though not essential
Prior supervisory/management experience desirable though not essential

Please note this role is physically demanding as there is an element of manual labour involved in all stages of mat product production and harvest. We expect all our staff to be multi-skilled, team players and be able and willing to be involved in all aspects of the farm, including the arable operations.
