Radcliffe Camera -
There is landscaping ..and there is art.
Radcliffe Camera is an iconic Oxford landmark and a working library. It is part of the central Bodleian Library complex. Radcliffe Camera is called a “camera” because the word is Latin for “room” or “chamber”. Originally, the building was a reading room for a library. Initially funded by Dr. John Radcliffe it was built between 1737 and 1749 to house his collection of scientific books.
Not surprisingly, it’s one of Oxford’s most iconic landmarks and is a popular tourist attraction for visitors to the city. The building is made of local limestone and features a stunning dome that rises high above the city’s skyline. The dome is topped by a lantern that provides natural light to the reading room below.
Although not freely open to the public, non-members can see the interior of Radcliffe Camera by booking an hour-and-a-half tour organised by The Bodleian Library.
In the last few weeks Harrowden has supplied new turf for the lawns outside Radcliffe Camera and they are spectacular. We supplied 815sq m of our Premium Turf grown on some of the best soils in the UK. We have developed this turf from carefully chosen seed species . It has a dense, dark green sward that flatters any garden design but which really benefits from the care taken by the landscapers here.
So these species are attractive and hard-wearing. We choose our unique blend of cultivars for year-round greenness, resistance to disease and visual merit. The result is a well-balanced, all-round premium turf suitable for a range of applications.
“Radcliffe Camera is an iconic Oxford landmark. This view, our Premium Turf and the care that has been taken to lay it and look after it only makes it more so.”
